Grey Fox Lung Cells with mEmerald-PMP
Targeting of peroxisomal membrane proteins (PMP) is a complex process. Peroxisomes are single membrane organelles that are involved with many important biochemical pathways and are found in almost all eukaryotic cells. Loss of peroxisomal functions may result in diseases such as Zellweger syndrome, hyperpipecolic acidaemia, neonatal adrenoleukodystrophy, and infantile Refsum's disease. In this digital video sequence, fox lung fibroblasts expressing mEmerald are fused to PMP.
EGFP is an enhanced derivative of the green fluorescent protein isolated from Aequorea jellyfish, and mEmerald is a variant of EGFP. mEmerald is about 16 percent brighter than EGFP and is also more photostable. Peak excitation and emission of mEmerald occur at 487 and 509 nanometers, respectively.
