Mouse Vas Deferens Tissue - 40x
The digital image above is a reconstruction of thick optical sections of a sample of mouse vas deferens tissue. The vas deferens, also known as the ductus deferens, is a paired duct belonging to the male reproductive system. The vas deferens has thick walls and consists of three layers of smooth muscle, which function together in the transport of sperm cells from their storage site in the epididymis to the ampullae, which are attached to the walls of the bladder. The congenital bilateral absence of the vas deferens (CBAVD) is accountable for a small percentage of male infertility cases.
