A new view on polarization microscopy.  Nature 381: 811-812 (1996).

The Pol-Scope was recently developed at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, for the the analysis of molecular architecture directly in living cells'. Its capabilities were achieved by augmenting the traditional polarized light microscope with novel electro-optional devices, algorithms to compute specimen birefringence and today's digital image capture and processing capabilities.
